2023 Portraits in Paint
Although her work over the last 35 years Anne has derived from story, the smaller works on paper in her present exhibition have been studies in the development of larger works for oil paintings. Being trained in a more abstract style she found this too restrictive and was drawn to developing better drawing skills so that narrative and figurative imagery could carry a story. Looking at imagery from the past included primitive art, religious art, surrealism and fantasy illustration.. “The Friend magazine”

For this exhibition I am showing all new work, never exhibited before, in a beautiful gallery in Earls Court.
I create by using form, colour and facial expression of the figures to convey atmosphere. The narratives are based on metaphors and insights gleaned from poets and writers.
Figures and animals, often part real and part mythological are used to portray stories. They are lacking in ethnicity , rather trying to show the nature of the
analogy. The existence of similar spiritual and emotional strivings can be seen in stories from every culture usually to promote understanding and coping practices.
